Kairos Community Garden

The community garden at Vanbrugh had to be rehomed with the demolition of the health centre and new development going up on the site in the summer of 2015.

The plants, sleepers and a LOT of soil and rocks found new homes at Forum at Greenwich as well as in other community gardens within the borough.

The Kairos gardeners gave the beds at the Forum some TLC before handing back to the Forum.

In May 2019 Kairos moved to new premises in West Thamesmead where gardening work has once more become possible. The beds around the car-park around Broadwater Hall were dug with help from GoGym.  Waterbutts were installed and the soil improved with a generous donation of compost from the landscaping company idverde.

Thanks to a grant from The National Gardens Scheme we now have roses planted around the carpark, a Rowen tree in front of the hall and fruit trees adorning the surgery garden!

In the lockdown of spring 2020 the Garden group ran remotely! 50 packs of seedlings, pots, compost, sticks, feed and instructions were distributed over a few weeks in May and June to friends and patients of Kairos.

Over the winter months participants then grew hyasinths, mustard and cress on the windowsill at home.
